MAURITIUS – THE JOURNEY TO INDEPENDENCE

Today, we decided to explore the Mauritius history lane, a theme inspired by our Independence Day. Mauritius is celebrating this year its 48th anniversary on 12th March under the theme « Nou Destin dan nou Lame » signifying that our destiny is in our hands.

Mauritius Independance Day

Let us take a special pride in saluting our beloved ‘quadricolore’- Red, blue, yellow and green. Red represents the bloodshed at the time of slavery and colonization and the struggle for freedom and independence, Blue symbolizes the Indian Ocean, in the middle of which Mauritius is located, Yellow represents the golden sunshine and bright future for the nation and Green represents the lush vegetation of the island. Let us recall, with pride, the struggle of our ancestors and political leaders, whose undying love for Mauritius secured us with our freedom. Let’s salute the hard work of all our citizens who have, over these 48 years, helped to build a new Mauritius. Let us bow our head in memory of all those who have fought for independence from the British colony for the cause of our unity, integrity and progress.

Mauritius was peaceful and uninhabited and had no natives apart from indigenous plants and animals, so when the different settlers took interest, they brought along their culture and resources which changed the face of Mauritius forever. Mauritius has now become multicultural, is dotted with historical monuments, ruins and architecture dating back to different colonial rules, and the dodos have become extinct! Our island, also known as Paradise Island is now one of the leading economies in Africa.

During this period of the year the multicolored flag is being displayed everywhere in the country – in stores, houses, buildings, vehicles and along the road. The official flag raising ceremony occured at Champ de Mars, where the Mauritian flag was raised for the first time in 1968. The day of the Independence is marked by a big ceremony with military parades, air parades, music concerts as well as show of dance and light to the impressive choreography.

On the occasion of the National Day Celebrations, The Techmode Outsourcing team wishes you a Happy Independence Day and thanks those who have contributed for the development of the Country. Long Live Mauritius!!
