Is the new US administration really against Outsourcing?

Donald Trump made opposition to outsourcing the centerpiece of his successful presidential campaign. On the trail, he spoke against businesses and CEOs that outsourced their activities overseas and allegedly reduced the American labour force. As president, Trump promised that he would bring back the factories to the US.

Despite talk at his rallies of that he was against outsourcing, the real estate tycoon has not always been against the practice. In his Trump University blog 2005, Donald Trump wrote “If a company’s only means of survival is by farming jobs outside its walls, then sometimes it’s a necessary step.”

He also told chat show host David Letterman in 2012 that he was proud to employ people in Bangladesh to manufacture Trump-branded dress shirts. “That’s good, we employ people in Bangladesh, and they have to work, too.” Mr Donald Trump said.

Donald Trump has benefited from cheap labor and cheap manufacturing abroad. “Made in China” is a familiar label on Donald Trump’s clothing lines, including his branded shirts and ties. Other garments came from factories found in Vietnam, Bangladesh and Mexico. According to an investigation by The New York Times, Mr Trump paired up with Turkish maker of luxury furniture, Dorya, in 2013 for his Trump Home brand.

Moreover, the “unbelievable” crystal products were made in Slovenia, he told the newspaper in 2010.

In reality, Donald Trump will never be able to stop the outsourcing sector as this same Outsourcing industry is already a well-established one in the US that contributes greatly to the American economy. The BPO sector generated 1.2 million jobs and $22 billion in revenue in 2015.

In the aftermath of the global financial crisis, Trump wrote in 2013 that businesses could work in a more unified world. Trump advocated for “global unity” and abandoning borders, “We will have to leave borders behind and go for global unity when it comes to financial stability.”

“Losing jobs is never a good thing, but we have to look at the bigger picture,” said Mr Donald Trump.

So after analysing his presendential campaign, we can all conclude that it was quite a campaign for the popular vote.

Donald Trump is a business magnate, a great marketer and strategist and will certainly be a great president.

The outsourcing sector is still very alive. If you are looking into an outsourcing possibility, contact us.
