The meaning of BPO
JUNE 16, 2015
BPO (Business process outsourcing)
The BPO is to entrust to a claimant a part of its business. Unlike conventional outsourcing, BPO goes far beyond the management of incoming and outgoing calls of a business. The BPO includes mainly the key activities of the company as for example procurement, accounting, finance, customer relationship management, or even that human resources and payroll.
The difference between BPO and traditional outsourcing.
In BPO, it is the overall process of the client that is managed by the subcontractor and a relationship of trust between these two companies is fundamental. The payer makes the appropriate tools available to the subcontractor. The subcontractor provides the payer trained human resources, manages these human resources to achieve a high level of service. The subcontractor engages on a level of service.
There were even examples of joint venture between a client and a provider to create a new company (usually owned 51% by the client) to strengthen this collaboration. An entity under which the contractor will operate this process in any sustainability as has been the case for IBM and the SNCF in 2010. But that is not it, there are also the so-called «BTO: Business transformation outsourcing. It is an evolution and a more in-depth version of the OPL. The BTO means providing support for all operations by the subcontractor who will be responsible for the transformation and the transition of the company to its new strategy.
The BPO in figures
Growth of 22.4% in 2004 to 7.9% in 2013, the performance of the sector of ICT/BPO in Mauritius, is experiencing a regression from year to year. « To revitalize this sector, the Board of Investment and the Ministry of technology decided to guide in a new direction with a view to consolidating its contribution in the country’s economy. » (Source: http://www.lematinal.com/news/local/8688-ict-bpo-vers-une-nouvelle-trajectoire-pour-une-redynamisation.html)
