Labor outsourcing helped a big company to meet its sales demand.
Labor outsourcing, which means the provision of labor force by a labor outsourcing service provider is a common practice of many big enterprises. Here is an example how labor outsourcing helped a big company to meet its sales demand:
One of the most famous online retailers, Amazon got a total of 3.5 million orders during a 24-hour period at a rate of 44 items a second during Christmas season.
In order to meet with the demand in the run-up to Christmas, Amazon hired more than 15,000 seasonal staff across the UK .The US internet giant, who is expanding operations in the country, said it expected that at least a hundred of these seasonal would later join Amazon full-time. Amazon said it was creating a variety of roles across its eight centers and its Edinburgh customer service center.
Catherine McDermott, director of operations at Amazon.co.uk said: «During the Christmas season, seasonal associates play a critical role helping us meet increased demand from customers. “As we continue to expand our UK operations, we expect many hundreds of these temporary associates to move into permanent positions as have been the case in previous years.”
Amazon said that last year it hired 10,000 seasonal staff in the run-up to the festive season and by the end of January had offered permanent roles to 1,000 temporary workers.
Outsourcing, as many forms as it can take, is always a great temporary backup or permanent solution to bridge the gap in high demand and limited offering capacities.
